This is the ELA (English Language Arts) page at Project COFFEE. Students in ELA will be working to progressively develop their reading, writing and overall language skills to align with the state's common core standards. At Project COFFEE, the smaller classroom size allows teachers to tailor the program to the specific needs and learning styles of the students. Throughout the school year, students will learn specific strategies to improve vocabulary and overall comprehension skills. We will be incorporating the Key Comprehension Routine from the Keys to Literacy Program to facilitate comprehension and writing skills. On this page, you will find information about what students are learning in the ELA classroom. You will also find links to helpful, ELA-related sites.

DIGGING DEEPER:
The Common Core strives for students to have a deeper understanding of material being taught. In the ELA classroom, we have incorporated common core ELA units developed by the Massachusetts and New York Departments of Education. The result: students who are more engaged in the work; students who are more confident; students who knowledgeably participate in classroom discussions. For special education students, the multiple modality presentation of material and the multiple modality expression of their learning engages students in meaningful literacy learning.
